Enhance Online Marketing With Backlinks PDF Print E-mail

Looking for a way to drive more traffic to your website? One of the most powerful techniques for increasing visitors to your site is by getting other webmasters to place links to your website on their sites.

When other websites include links to yours, this can increase traffic in two ways. First, there is always a possibility that people who visit the other site will be interested in seeing what you have to offer and so will choose to click through to your website and browse around. Second, assuming the links are on appropriate websites, your website is likely to index higher in the search engines. The higher your site's search engine ranking, the more targeted traffic you will attract to your website.

There are a number of different ways to build backlinks to your website, many of which are free or very inexpensive.

Forum Posting
One of the quickest and easiest ways to begin building backlinks to your website is to become an active participant in forum discussions that relate to your line of work. Include a link to your website in your signature line, and you'll add another backlink each time you leave a comment on the forums you choose.

Make sure the forums you select are relevant to your business. Doing so ensures that the other participants might be interested in what you have to offer and might click through to your website. Relevancy also increases the odds that the link will benefit you in terms of search engine optimization.

Article Marketing
One of the most powerful things you can do to create backlinks for your website is to engage in article marketing. This technique involves creating informative articles related to your area of expertise and submitting them to online article directories. Other webmasters visit these directories, looking for free reprint articles to update the content on their own websites.

Every time one of your articles is published on another website, you'll get a new backlink, assuming you included your site's URL in the article's author resource box. Many webmasters who don't have time to write and submit their own articles utilize the services of ghost writers to take care of their article marketing needs.

Directory Submission
There are a number of website directories designed to create backlinks to websites. There is some debate regarding how valuable listing your website in these types of directories really is. Ideally, at least initially, it's best to limit directory participation to those that do not charge for inclusion. The best directories for your sites are ones that are relevant to the type of product or service your organization offers.

There are companies that offer directory submission services for a fee, but you can also take care of this task yourself. There are numerous online resources you can utilize to identify appropriate directories. You can submit your site manually or download a free or inexpensive submission software program that can automate a great deal of the process.

Link Exchange
The benefits of linkbuilding are widely known among the Internet marketing community. There are many webmasters actively looking for opportunities to build links to their own websites. Many of these individuals are interested in and open to link exchange opportunities. Spend a little time searching for blogs and other websites that appeal to your target market, but do not compete directly with you for customers.

Some webmasters publish link exchange opportunities directly on their websites. There may even be opportunities to exchange links with sites that don't have such information readily available. Simply contact the owners of those websites, and offer to link to them. You'll be pleasantly surprised to find that many of the people you contact will accept your offer, and will gladly return the favor with a reciprocal link.

Get to Work
These ideas represent just a few of the most basic techniques for building backlinks to your website. When you're getting started with a link building campaign, these strategies can help get you going in the right direction and they can have a positive impact on your online business. When you actively engage in link building on an ongoing basis, it won't take long for your website to start attracting a greater number of visitors via click-throughs and organic searches.

Digital Marketing for Small Business PDF Print E-mail
Written by Cheryl Frost
Sunday, 27 July 2008 13:55

With the explosion of digital communication over the past decade, the media by which small businesses can market themselves is enormous.  Print media is still very popular, of course, like newspaper advertisements, signs, or brochures.  But digital media offers never-ending potential and creativity.  In the old days, the only electronic marketing tools available were television and radio.  Now we have the Internet, e-mail, voicemail, text messaging, podcasts, infomercials—the list keeps growing.  Consider all the different ways you can beef up business for your company and which methods would be most feasible to you.

Websites

Having a website is a premium way to market your business.  With new software and bandwidth offers from internet service providers, websites can be an inexpensive, yet very effective marketing tool.  Not only does a website make it easier for customers to search for your services, it is the most detailed representation of your business.  The Internet is the perfect place to advertise, inform, and interact with your customers.  You can even set up a storefront so that your customers can order your product directly online from anywhere in the world.  In fact, it is almost unthinkable for any business, large or small, to not have a website.

Online directories

You may not feel that you are ready for an entire website.  If you are only selling ink cartridges, for example, you might not have enough content to add to a website.  Or maybe you just don’t have the time or resources to maintain a site.  You can still market your product through the Internet.  For very small fees, you can have your business placed on online directories, which still come up on search engine results lists.  The directory listing would be simple, containing your company’s name, address, and telephone number.  Usually, there is no place for catchy phrases in a directory listing, so you would do well with a very creative and descriptive name for your business.

Banner Ads

Whether or not you have your own website, you can advertise your business on other websites through banner ads.  This involves placing your company logo, business name, and catch phrase in the white space of someone else’s site.  Visitors to that site see your ad, and if they are interested, they click the banner and move to your site or to an online directory.  The fee for advertising this way is very small, either a few cents per click or a set amount per month.

E-Mail Marketing

Using e-mail to market your business is something that must be approached carefully.  Unwanted e-mails to mass numbers of people are considered spam and can have a counter-effect.  Marketing e-mails must be invited by the recipient.  Otherwise, you risk irritating a potential customer.  But there are a number of simple ways to get that invitation.  First, you can have an option on your website, if you have one, that allows the visitor to check a box if they want to receive regular updates about your product.  Or you can sign up for an affiliate program with another website, one that asks, in their registration process, if the customer would like to hear about “other great offers.”

Marketing On Hold

Launching a marketing campaign while customers are on hold is not a new concept.  But it is a perfect use of hold time that may otherwise be wasted.  When your callers must be placed on hold, play a digital recording that highlights your products and reminds customers of your unique competitive edge.

Television, Radio, and Podcast

Marketing your services through television and radio ads might be a little extreme for your small business.  But don’t rule it out until you’ve considered the options.  Large network television commercials are very costly, money you probably will not get back from your small scale sales.  Even radio advertising can be expensive unless you are at least a mid-sized business.

On a smaller scale, local cable TV stations are a far less expensive medium.  You would have to research the viewing audience, but if a station caters to small businesses or specialized businesses, this would be a great place to promote yourself.  Local radio stations can also be beneficial.  During morning talk shows, you can purchase a full-blown ad or a simple marketing blurb read by the host.  University radio stations are especially keen to sell ad blurbs as they typically need the filler, not to mention the extra income.

Podcasts have become very popular over the past few years.  Podcasts are digitally recorded, specialized radio shows.  Currently, there are very few podcast programs that integrate advertisements—this is one of the features that makes the podcast so desirable—but keep an eye out for those that do.  Nearly all electronic media started out with no commercials until the marketing income became too tempting. (Cable TV once used ‘no commercials’ as their unique competitive edge.  Now look at it!)

In the modern digital world, marketing potentials are enormous.  Small business owners who do not take advantage of what the computer age has to offer are literally selling themselves short.  The main objective of any small business should be to meet the needs of the customers.  Digital marketing provides instant gratification, which is the greatest need of consumers today.

Beware of unsolicited postal mail notifying you that your domain is up for renewal. These mailings are not coming from Creative Ops and should be ignored.

These organizations send a "courtesy" mailer informing registrants that a domain is coming up for renewal. They usually, and are required to, show the words "This is not a bill".

Please know that these messages are not coming from Creative Ops and offer renewals at up to three times the current registration fees that Creative Ops offers to their clients. Please be aware of this latest scheme to increase your registration rates and take your domain from Creative Ops domain management.

As a regular practice Cresative Ops will send a certified domain registration reminder to your email address on file to inform you that one of your domains is approaching renewal. In the event that there are any questions in regards to your domain's renewal, please contact your account manager.

New Flavors of Spam E-mail
Written by Paul
Monday, 23 June 2008 06:10

No, I am not talking about the tasty dinner treat that I often had as a kid. What I am talking about is my least favorite subject. I really dislike spam (the email kind) due to the fact that I had to remove my Internet domain name from the spam blacklist. To this day, some people are still not receiving my emails from my business domain. I have since taken care of the problem and it is just a matter of time before all of the ISPs have their databases updated.

MP3s

The latest message was from an unknown source that had an attached mp3 file labeled "ll_coolj". I like LL so I gave it a listen. To my surprise it was the latest insider stock information. Right on! Not really. Generally there are people out there that will try to sway the market for meaningless stocks. I am sure that you have received some of those emails.

Calendar Events

Recently while checking my schedule I ran across an event that looked unfamiliar to me. As I opened it up, it appeared to be another form of spam. It was an event that had conveniently placed itself onto my calendar. After researching and reading about it in a magazine, I learned that this form of spam is becoming more popular as well. For those of you that use Google Calendar, there is a setting that allows only events that have been responded to the ability to maske their way onto your schedule. You can find this setting in the settings tab near the bottom of the general settings:

Anyhow, just thought that I would let you guys know. They are harmless until someone figures out how to launch a virus in an mp3 file. Here are some resources that will help you to report spam.
